No one knows for sure how many layers an onion has. Wiki is no help, other than to say that in Middle Ages onions were used to pay the rent. Also in Roman times, gladiators were known to smear onion juice on their muscles. Unfortunately, this site is not about gladiators or landlords. It's not even about onions. Just lots and lots of layers.
